Hi, I'm Julie Andrea.

I came to Brooklyn from Guyana when I was nine. I became a mom young. I'm the oldest of five kids, and somehow, despite being a total homebody, I ended up building a life out loud.
This page started as a place to share what I was obsessed with, starting with baking. What began as a creative outlet while raising three kids grew into an actual bakery, Cakeaholic Obsession. I built it, I loved it, and eventually I closed it.
Endings like that don't erase you. They just make room for the next thing.

Right now, the season I'm in looks different. I'm navigating life after a 20-year marriage. I'm learning how to live without my oldest son. I'm an empty nester, dating again, rebuilding routines I didn't ask to rebuild. Some days look soft and beautiful. Some days look messy and honest. All of it belongs here.
I didn't get here by healing first and living second. I lived while I healed.
So Behind the Obsession isn't really about baking anymore. Or maybe it's about all of it. The home projects. The dinners with my kids. The books I can't put down. The small things I can't stop thinking about. The thoughts behind the routines. The lessons behind the obsessions.
If you're navigating change, rebuilding your life, or just craving a quieter, more honest place to land, pull up a chair. You're in the right room.
Everyone needs a supplier. I'll be yours.
